SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office has connected a man to two deaths. Officials trailed him to a home that eventually caught on fire, and they stated he wasn’t alone.
On August 28 around 7:30 p.m., personnel from the Bloomfield Police Department and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Road 4909. A man and woman were inside and determined to be dead with gunshot wounds.
Authorities investigated and believed that two people were in the home with the victims when they died. They claimed Isaiah Brown fired a gun during an argument and fled the scene in the victims’ vehicle with Ravyn Burns.
The next day, multiple law enforcement agencies tracked the pair to a home west of Kirtland, New Mexico. They tried to contact Brown and Burns but alleged Brown fired at them. Two deputies and three Farmington officers fired in return. The home started on fire, residents were evacuated, and the pair was able to escape and hide.
Fire suppression efforts were made on the home, and authorities arrested Burns. Brown was located and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The home was considered a complete loss.
Officials expect to charge Brown with second-degree murder (two counts) and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. Burns had an outstanding warrant, and she may be additionally charged.
“The successful apprehension is the result of the tireless investigative efforts of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington Police Department, United States Marshals Service, and the New Mexico State Police. Thanks also goes to the San Juan County Fire Department for their service and partnership. There were no injuries to deputies or officers, and those who discharged their firearms were placed on standard administrative leave,” reads a press release from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
