Man throws explosive device through window, woman dead, girl injured in Bridgeport neighborhood

An unknown suspect threw an explosive device through a window of an apartment overnight in the Bridgeport neighborhood where a woman was pronounced dead and 12-year-old girl was injured, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a male suspect threw an incendiary device through a window of an apartment in the 3100 block of South Green Street, causing a fire, police said.

A 54-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a girl, 12, was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was listed in fair condition.

No one was in custody, and the Bomb and Arson Unit was investigating.
