McDonald’s released its Chicken Big Mac on Thursday, Oct. 10, with a little bit of fanfare.
The fast food chain tapped into social media for the launch through live streams with influencer Kai Cenat. And customers who ordered the sandwich through McDonald’s app were polled on whether it was really a Big Mac, the signature double decker burger. Early results leaned toward yes.
Instead of two beef patties, the Chicken Big Mac has what the McDonald’s website describes as “two juicy tempura chicken patties.” The rest of the sandwich closely resembles the original Big Mac. It has the American cheese slices, the shredded lettuce, the pickles, the sesame seed bun and of course the Big Mac sauce.
We paid $6.29 plus tax for the sandwich, the same as a Big Mac. Combos were $10.29 and $10.89.
McDonald’s serves other chicken sandwiches. The Chicken Big Mac resembles the McChicken, which is also made with a chicken patty and served on a plain bun with shredded lettuce and mayonnaise for about $2.99.
McCrispy sandwiches are made with crispy chicken fillet and served on potato rolls. They start around $5.49.
The Chicken Big Mac was previewed Sept. 27 at a one-day pop-up hosted by Chain, a celebrity-driven “secret event space” in West Hollywood that creates elevated versions of chain restaurant specialties and functions like a speakeasy for fast food. Customers sign up on Chain’s website and get text messages when drops take place.
