Missy Higgins To Be Inducted Into ARIA Hall Of Fame

Following the heels of rockers Jet, this year’s inductee in the ARIA Hall of Fame is someone who couldn’t be more different: it’s singer-songwriter royalty Missy Higgins. She’ll be inducted on the night of this year’s ARIA Awards – Wednesday, 20 November.

Missy Higgins is a nine-time ARIA Award winner, including the five wins she won on the back of her debut album, the ARIA #1 The Sound Of White in 2005.

The Scar singer – that song won her the award for Best Pop Release in 2004, too – took home the ARIA Awards for Album of the Year, Best Female Artist, Highest Selling Album, Breakthrough Artist – Album, and Best Pop Release.

Since the release of her debut single, Scar, Missy Higgins has been a household name in Australia. She has influenced her peers and the next generation of singer-songwriters, with Kate Miller-Heidke, Clare Bowditch, Amy Shark, Angie McMahon, Gordi, and Gretta Ray citing her as an inspiration.

The follow-up to The Sound Of White, 2007’s On A Clear Night, was also a #1 album in Australia, as was 2012’s The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle. Her subsequent albums, 2014’s Oz and 2018’s Solastalgia, made it to the top three of the ARIA Charts.

Next month, Missy Higgins will release her first full-length in six years with The Second Act, which she’s described as the sequel to The Sound Of White. She’s been touring on her most extensive tour of Australia in 20 years, playing to over 80,000 people across 40 sold-out dates. Sounds like it’s the perfect time for Higgins to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Speaking of the honour, Higgins commented in a statement, “I feel very honoured and grateful. So many artists I love and admire are in the ARIA Hall of Fame, so it feels a bit surreal to be joining them. This year has already been really special; now, this is going to make it even more memorable.”

ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd added, “Australia has seen Missy Higgins’ music career go from strength to strength, including nine ARIA Awards, several number-one albums, and multiple sell-out national tours. The ARIA Hall of Fame is all about celebrating legendary music talent who leave a unique mark, inspiring not only the industry but Australia and the world.

“Missy is the absolute epitome of this. We couldn’t be happier to be welcoming one of Australia’s most loved and admired artists, Missy Higgins, into the ARIA Hall of Fame.”
