Isolated storm chances continue across parts of New Mexico through Saturday. Drier and hotter weather returns to all of New Mexico starting Sunday.
More isolated storms have developed Wednesday afternoon, mainly across the northern and western mountains, but a couple storms have also developed over the Sacramento and Manzano Mountains. There is a very small chance for isolated storms in the Rio Grande Valley through late this evening. Just like the last few days, all showers and storms will end quickly after sunset. It’s also been a hotter day across New Mexico, with high temperatures climbing back to near and warmer than average for the end of July.
Thursday will be a carbon-copy version of today, with isolated showers and storms again developing across the western and northern mountains, along with the central mountain chain, Thursday afternoon. These storms will drift southward into the evening. Temperatures will also be a degree or two hotter than today.
Our most active afternoon of thunderstorms will be Friday, when areas like the Rio Grande Valley will see a higher chance for rain and storms. Some rain could be heavier Friday afternoon in western and northern New Mexico, along with the Sacramento Mountains. Because of this there will be a slightly higher threat of burn scar flash flooding. On Saturday, northwest and west-central New Mexico will begin to dry out, but afternoon storm chances will continue from southern New Mexico into the central part of the state and into northern and northeastern New Mexico. However, this will be the last chance for storms for the next few days.
Drier air moves into all of New Mexico starting Sunday, cutting the chance of rain for almost all of New Mexico. High pressure will build over the state starting Monday, bringing a period of dry and hot weather through the middle of next week. More monsoon moisture should return again though late next week.
