My 1st Post! – Intro & why I joined Dev.to

RMAG news

Hi guys!

I’m excited to join dev.to community! As a new Computer Science grad student in Canada, I wanted to share a bit about myself and why I decided to be a part of this amazing community.

1. Self-Branding & Networking:
Breaking into the tech industry is recently getting super challenging, especially as a new graduate. Due to hundreds of candidates applying for a single job position, companies often rely on ATS to manage the influx of resumes. This makes it even harder to stand out and get past the initial resume phase.
I assume that if I were a hiring manager, I’d rather hire someone through personal connections or networking such that someone whose skills and qualities have been vouched for by my colleagues or who has demonstrated their abilities through platforms like dev.to. By being active here, I aim to showcase my skills, share my knowledge, and connect with professionals who can vouch for my abilities and help me grow.

2. Self-Improvement and Sharing Knowledge:

The tech industry evolves rapidly, and it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest trends and developments. Throughout my studies, I’ve tried to catch up with the trends and learn on YouTube and X. However, their algorithms often distract me with unrelated content like my hobby, baseball, which doesn’t help me stay focused on learning. Now that I’ve graduated, it’s time to switch to a more professional platform like dev.to. Here, I hope to continuously learn and keep myself informed about the latest updates in technology. By sharing useful and interesting information, I hope to connect with others who have similar interests and passions.

3. Learning and Growth:

To solidify my learning and ensure that my new knowledge becomes a permanent part of my skillsets, I plan to post regularly about what I learn each week or even each day. This practice will help me recall and reinforce new concepts, making them a lasting part of my memory.

4. Collaboration and Feedback:

I believe one of the best ways to learn is through collaboration and feedback. By sharing my work and thoughts here, I hope to receive constructive feedback and insights from more experienced members of the community. If I make mistakes or have questions, I trust that somebody will be there to correct, teach, and guide me.

I am incredibly excited to start this journey with all of you. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to connect, collaborate, or just chat about tech. Looking forward to learning and growing together!
