New Mexico man pleads guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico man who led police officers on a violent chase through an Albuquerque hotel pled guilty in federal court on Wednesday. In February, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to stop 39-year-old Lupe Vargas for a problem with his temporary tag. That’s when investigators said Vargas crashed his car into a pillar at the Ramada Hotel in northeast Albuquerque, shot at deputies, and then ran into a hotel.

During the pursuit, BCSO said Vargas changed out of his white tank top into a red shirt and walked out of the property acting like nothing happened. A K9 deputy led deputies to him.

Vargas pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun. He faces up to 15 years behind bars.
