New Mexico State Police investigate murder in Chimayo

CHIMAYO, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are investigating a homicide at a home in Chimayo. It started on Monday when NMSP officers were called to a home for domestic violence where a woman was heard screaming for help. Dispatch received a second call about a fire at the home.

Firefighters removed 46-year-old Analilia Morales from the home but NMSP said she died on scene from knife injuries. Another male was found unconscious in front of the home with stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

According to NMSP, Leonel Andrade Garcia was seen leaving the burning home with a knife. He was found in a nearby field and had been stabbed. Police said Morales had an active protection order against Garcia and they were due in court in the next few days.

Garcia was charged with murder, kidnapping, and arson among other charges.
