“Something bad is happening in Oz…” Here’s a new TV spot for Wicked, which is finally opening in two months from now. While most of the trailers have focused on the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda, since both of them are needed to sell this movie, this spot is actually different. It begins with the connection we all know from The Wizard of Oz – “before she was called ‘wicked’” – as in the Wicked Witch of the West. 🧙♀️ After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season. Made by filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Acclaimed actress Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba Thropp, a young woman with green skin who eventually becomes the iconic Wizard of Oz villain that everyone knows (and fears). Ariana Grande co-stars as Glinda, with Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, plus Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz.
