New Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S variants are coming out in October, but not everyone is happy

While much of the video game industry is engaged at the Gamescom event in Germany, Microsoft has chosen this week to officially announce the pre-order for the new Xbox Series X|S consoles.

The news of the consoles was first shared back in June at the Xbox Games Showcase, but the full details have now been announced.

The release date has now been set as October 15, with a pre-order option available. The consoles include the white, digital 1TB Xbox Series X which is priced at $449.99, the Galaxy Black 2TB Xbox Series X costing $599.99 , and the white 1TB Xbox Series S at $349.99.

In the Xbox Wire press release, the head of Xbox devices Roanne Sones said “There is no better time to jump in with Xbox.

“At Xbox, our vision is to bring more games to more players across a wide variety of devices. It’s a great time to play Xbox games, many of which will be available on day one for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass for Console members.”

Not everyone will receive the consoles on October 15 though, as some select countries have a later date of October 29 and the availability will vary by country.

It’s not yet known which countries will see the later release date, but the consoles will be available in all current Xbox hardware-supported regions and markets.

This includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and United States with the exception of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, India, Israel, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, and UAE.

Pre-order news of Xbox Series X|S consoles ignites disappointment in gaming community

While the release of any new console typically sparks excitement, not everyone is happy with the announcement due to the high price tags and ‘lack of emphasis.’

Let that sink in.

In a response to the Xbox account on X sharing the pre-order notice video, a user who goes by the username ‘NoFilterGames’ replied: “But there’s no emphasis on these consoles from Xbox as a whole.

“There’s no reason why anyone should buy one given the current business model. Perhaps efforts (marketing) on why these consoles are of value for current owners as well as potential new owners.”

Another person called ‘timtterrible’ said: “No, it’s not three new consoles. It’s purely a minor hardware refresh in storage size and colors. Your naming conventions are already hard enough to figure out, don’t confuse the consumer even more.”
