NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Monsoon season in New Mexico is usually June 15 to September 30, and officials are reminding drivers to stay safe.
Severe weather can make traveling difficult, especially when it causes flooding and road damage. That’s why the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) put together a list of safety measures to follow during monsoon season.
NMDOT tips can be seen below:
Go slow
Wear a seatbelt
Keep distance between vehicles
Turn around if you see flooding
Turn your headlights on
Pull over if you’re caught in strong winds, rain, or dust
Don’t use cruise control when the road is wet
Stay alert when you’re driving
Follow guidelines when there’s an outage
Be patient with other drivers
