No Wiggles For 'Zombie Plane'

No Wiggles For 'Zombie Plane'

The Wiggles were reportedly set to reunite and star in a zombie flick, but that idea was dashed as it was deemed too “off-brand”.

Yahoo Lifestyle reports that the OG four—Anthony Field, Greg Page, Jeff Fatt, and Murray Cook—were set to feature in a movie called Zombie Plane, which is currently in production in Brisbane.

Directed by Lav Bodnaruk (The Letter) and Michael Mier (Bluey, Last King Of The Cross), The Wiggles were apparently keen on the idea, but it was decided that starring in Zombie Plane wouldn’t work with their core audience.

A source told Yahoo Lifestyle, “It is very tongue-in-cheek, and the boys were flattered to be asked, but sadly, the chance to see ‘the originals’ back together again has been dashed.

“They loved the script and the idea that was created for them, and it would have been exciting to get the band back together, but the project just didn’t sit right with everyone from the children’s entertainment group’s management.”

The source added that Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Amy Shark have reportedly joined the cast of the film.

Zombie Plane stars Chuck Norris, Ice Ice Baby rapper and actor Vanilla Ice, and Sophie Monk.

According to the IMDB film description, the latter two team up to attempt to stop the contagion from spreading before the US Air Force shoots a plane from Sydney to Los Angeles filled with zombified passengers out of the sky.

In November, The Wiggles were crowned Australia’s most-streamed local artist on Spotify.

The greatest hits album, Hot Potato: The Best Of The OG Wiggles, arrived on vinyl late last year. The album coincided with the release of the Wiggles documentary Hot Potato: The Story Of The Wiggles, which aired on Amazon Prime Video following its world premiere at SXSW Sydney.

The documentary includes previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage between shining examples of why The Wiggles are Australia’s favourite children’s band.

Wiggle Anthony Field said of the documentary, “Looking through the archives has brought back so many incredible and emotional memories, from our first shows for 30 children to touring America and the world, playing in arenas. It’s been such an incredible and evolving journey, and we can’t wait to share our story with everyone.”
