Northbrook Junior High School students recognized by American Legion for their citizenship

Each year, Northbrook Junior High School partners with the local chapter of the American Legion for student Citizenship Awards.

According to a news release, 16 students were nominated by their teachers based on the character qualities of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service. It is one of the highest honors awarded to American Youth by the American Legion organization, officials said. The awards were announced at the May 29 graduation ceremony.

Meng Sun, Grace Paulissian, and Mark Gelfand each received the Distinguished Achievement Citizenship Award, the release said. Jillian Lefteroff and Lucian Gutfraynd received Honorable Mention.

Eleven students were also recognized for being nominated: Levi Agran, Bryce Bavier, Ryan Cederlund, Anabelle Kettelhut, Annie Leverenz, Julia Loewy, Jzak McGough, Sasha Ship, June Wiemer, Andrew Wetter, and Janessa Wu.
