With One Piece entering its final saga, some devil fruits are shining brighter than others. The uniqueness of each devil fruit in the series is one of the reasons Eiichiro Oda has been praised as a great writer. While some may pale compared to others, their application depends solely on the user’s imagination. Among the numerous devil fruits in the series, Basil Hawkins’s Wara Wara no Mi has proved to be one of the strongest and weirdest one.

How does Wara Wara No Mi work?

The Wara Wara no mi is a paramecia-type devil fruit that allows its user to create and manipulate straw. While it does sound like an underwhelming ability, Hawkins used this to terrifying effect, becoming one of the most fearsome pirates in the One Piece universe. It also makes him a terrifying opponent due to the its versatility.

Hawkins could use straw to enhance his fighting capabilities with the devil fruit by engulfing his body. However, the Wara Wara no mi’s most terrifying ability was shown in the Wano arc, during his fight with Law. Hawkins summoned smaller straw dolls and stored them inside his body. Each doll was linked to a person of his choosing to take the damage if he is injured.

This rare ability granted him the power to survive life-threatening attacks and blows from his foes. With this, Hawkins was able to connect a doll to Law’s teammates to prevent the pirate from attacking carelessly.

However, as fearsome as the Wara Wara no mi sounds, the devil fruit isn’t without its limits. For one as versatile as the straw is, it is not durable. This was seen in Hawkins’s battle against Zoro. Moreover, the number of straw dolls he can carry is limited to ten. If a person linked to the doll is injured through other means, the damage will still be reflected in the doll. Despite these drawbacks, the devil fruits remains to be one of the strongest in the series.
