ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 2024 Gatorade New Mexico boys track and field player of the year was announced on Thursday. This year’s honor went to Organ Mountain junior Corbin Coombs.
The 6-10 middle distance/distance runner helped lead the Knights to a third place finish in the class 5A state meet with wins in the 800 and 1600m events. In the 1600, his time of 4:06.17 set a new state class record and ranked 17th nationally.
Coombs was also named All-American after a second-place finish at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in the two-mile. At the national HOKA Festival of Miles, he came in eighth in the mile with a personal record 4:04.48.
