Per reports, Papini faked her kidnapping and stayed hidden with her ex-boyfriend, James Reyes. The documentary talks about how Papini’s husband, Keith Papini, tried to find his wife. Additionally, it features conversations with Papini’s sister, Sheila Koester, who reveals how the family reacted after the incident.
According to the documentary, Sheila Koester opened up about her relationship with her sister and their childhood. Citing the documentary, Distractify noted that Koester didn’t open up much about her childhood since it was personally painful. However, she acknowledged there was a fair amount of drinking and drug use in the household. Additionally, Koester claimed that she didn’t just act like a sibling to Sherri Papini but also took on parental responsibilities.
Sheila Koester was the first family member to address the public after Sherri Papini returned home. Per CBS News, Koester delivered a statement about how happy she was to see her sister again. At the time, Koester was six months pregnant. In her public statement, she thanked everyone who supported the family during such catastrophic times. However, she was surprised upon learning about her sister’s disappearance.

In the documentary, Sheila Koester answered several questions and provided vital information about her sister, Sherri Papini. In one instance, Koester noted that she orchestrated the plan for “love” and “attention.” She said, “I think she just really wanted to feel important. She always has.” Koester also shared how she felt when she heard the news of Sherri’s disappearance: “I fell down to the ground and started sobbing.”
However, there’s no love lost between the sisters. In the documentary, Sheila Koester revealed that her love for Sherri Papini will “never go away.” However, she states that she might never know why her sister did what she did.
Sherri Papini received a sentence of 18 months in prison and is on supervised release until 2026.
