Atlus’ Studio Zero premiered the Metaphor: ReFantazio story trailer at Anime Expo 2024 on Friday. Featuring a mix of gameplay and non-gameplay footage, it shows the tumultuous state of the United Kingdom of Euchronia and the heroes’ mission to save it.

The new Metaphor: ReFantazio trailer opens with an elf woman lamenting her inability to save the kingdom’s Prince. However, another character reveals that the Prince is still alive but in a magically induced coma caused by a curse. The protagonists need to kill Count Luis if they have any hope of lifting the curse. Unfortunately, getting to him will be easier said than done.

However, an opportunity arises when a magical construct with the voice of the dead king appears over the city. It promises the throne “Whosoever have earned the greatest faith of the citizenry.” The protagonist then proposes his party enter the tournament, kill Luis, and save the kingdom.

The Metaphor: ReFantazio story trailer also touches on the ethnic conflict between Euchronia’s fantasy races, with the smaller tribes facing oppression. The protagonist himself is something called an Elder, who don’t seem particularly popular in Euchronia. The Prince has dreams of changing the kingdom for the better, but the heroes will need to lift his curse if there is any hope of making them a reality.
