President Iohannis at 4 of July reception: A solid friendship with the U.S.

Attending the reception on the U.S. Independence Day on 4 of July, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis stated that Romania has a solid friendship with the United States of America, and welcomed the updated strategic approach of the United States towards the Black Sea.

“We have a solid friendship, which is reflected in the substantial cooperation on all dimensions of our Strategic Partnership. Currently, we host an increased number of American soldiers, which represents not only a success of our collaboration in the field of defense, but also a firm proof of the solidarity between our states, in these extremely complicated moments for the security of Europe and the Euro-Atlantic region” , said Klaus Iohannis.

He emphasized that, at the same time, together with the United States and our European and global partners, we continue to act in support of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and all vulnerable partners in the Black Sea region and thus contribute to strengthening regional and transatlantic security, as well as to strengthen Romania’s security.

“I am convinced that at the NATO Summit, which the United States will host next week, we will make important decisions for our collective security. I welcome, also in this context, the process of updating the strategic approach of the United States towards the Black Sea, to which our country also made a contribution. I also discussed this topic with President Biden during our recent meeting at the White House. We share the common vision that we must strengthen efforts to strengthen transatlantic unity and to defend our common values. Only in this way can we offer all partners in the region a path to peace, prosperity and Euro-Atlantic integration“, the Romanian president said.

He added that the responsible contribution of the states in the region to ensuring the security and resilience of the Black Sea is crucial to transform the region into a safe, open and prosperous space.

“Our country is recognized as a responsible actor and a factor of stability in the Black Sea, contributing both to the security of the region and to the development and strengthening of the transatlantic relationship. Romania is the ally and strategic partner that will fight tirelessly for freedom, for economic progress and for democracy, so that the citizens are protected and have a prosperous life. We will continue to work together, based on common values, including to promote the fundamental importance of new technologies, to secure global supply chains and to strengthen energy security, at the national and regional level”, said the head of state. He mentioned that, in this sense, cooperation projects in the field of nuclear energy are essential for the collaboration between “our countries, in order to increase the energy security of Romania and the entire region. By carrying out these projects, Romania becomes an important regional vector in the energy field, by consolidating energy independence and developing advanced solutions for green energy”, said President Iohannis.

The Romanian head of state also said that Romania will continue to work together with the United States so that Romania’s inclusion in the Visa Waiver program becomes a reality for Romanian citizens as soon as possible.“Last but not least, I want to remind you of our common goal of including Romania in the Visa Waiver program. We will continue to work together with the United States so that this common desire becomes a reality for the Romanian citizens in the shortest possible time”.
