Public Enemy Announce 'On The Grid' 35th Anniversary Australian Tour

Political hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy will return to Australia this October, celebrating the 35th anniversary of It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back (36 this year) for a run called On The Grid.

The American group, led by Chuck D and Flavor Flav (that report of Flavor Flav being out of the band was a publicity stunt), will be accompanied by special guests A.B. Original on all dates, which begin at Perth’s Red Hill Auditorium on Wednesday, 2 October.

From there, Public Enemy and A.B. Original will head to Adelaide’s AEC Theatre on Friday, 4 October, Melbourne’s John Cain Arena on Saturday, 5 October, Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, 9 October, Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Friday, 11 October, and wrap up at Brisbane’s Eatons Hill Outdoor on Saturday, 12 October.

The Telstra pre-sale opens this Friday (28 June) at 10 am local time before the TEG, Ticketek and venue pre-sale begins on Monday (1 July) at 10 am local time. The general sale opens at 10 am local time on Tuesday, 2 July. You can find all the ticketing information here.

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, released via Def Jam and Columbia Records in June 1988, charted for 47 weeks on the Billboard 200, thanks to iconic singles like Rebel Without A Pause, Bring The Noise, Don’t Believe The Hype, Night Of The Living Baseheads, and Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos.

In 1990, Public Enemy’s profile grew even larger following the release of the iconic album Fear Of A Black Planet and its unforgettable single, Fight The Power. In 2013, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Public Enemy last toured in Australia ten long years ago. In a review of their show at The HiFi in Brisbane, The Music’s Jake Sun remarked, “Public Enemy show that maturity and age have only helped them to develop and refine their powers in the live arena, and tonight is no exception.”
