With six years now passed since its last public concert, and eight after its ninth studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead’s hiatus has been long enough that some fans have begun to doubt the legendary band’s return. But on Sunday, Sept. 8, bassist Colin Greenwood shared some glimmer of hope for a light at the end of the tunnel.

In a Q&A for the Hay Festival Querétaro, Greenwood coyly mentioned that the band had reconnected over the summer to play together. “We did some rehearsals about two months ago in London, just to play the old songs,” he said. “It was really fun–had a really good time.” While the news of the quintet’s behind-the-scenes reunion comes as a shot in the arm for fans long in waiting, the artist was careful to clarify that there were no set plans to re-launch the project anytime soon. “We’re still talking all the time, we just need to make a plan and get some time together sorted out in advance,” he countered.

As fans continue to await the band’s return, there’s no shortage of Radiohead offshoot material to enjoy as the members maintain packed schedules with side projects. Greenwood will continue on as a touring member of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds band in the next few months in place of Martyn Casey, and is otherwise working to publish the photobook How to Disappear: A Photographic Portrait of Radiohead, which will land on shelves and coffee tables everywhere on October 15.

Just over a week ago, fans received more good news with the announcement of Cutouts, the third full-length release from The Smile, featuring Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner. The trio’s latest is sourced from the same sessions that gave rise to its sophomore album Wall of Eyes, which dropped earlier this year. Preview singles “Zero Sum,” “Foreign Spies” and “Don’t Get Me Started” are available now.
