Record Breaking Heat Returns

Record Breaking Heat Returns

Record and near-record breaking heat has once again returned to New Mexico. The warm temperatures will be sticking around through the weekend.

A combination of an upper level ridge over the state of New Mexico and a high pressure system over the bootheel are stifling rain chances and increasing temperatures. The high pressure and ridge formed earlier this week and will be sticking around through Saturday. The pair will be bringing more record breaking heat on Saturday.

There is a small amount of moisture trapped under the upper level ridge. This may cause a few spotty showers over the Northern Mountains this weekend. However, most of this rain will evaporate before reaching the ground.

A low pressure system has been forming over the pacific over the past few days. Over the weekend this low will move towards and over the Great Basin. A backdoor cold front will also make its way into New Mexico late Sunday or early Monday. The combination will bring slightly cooler and breezier weather to New Mexico next week.
