Record breaking temperatures coming to New Mexico this weekend

Isolated storms are coming to the mountains and northeast New Mexico later today. The state also sees the start of a heat wave.

It was a relatively calm start to the afternoon. Areas around the mountains saw some cloud cover this morning. As we move later into the day we will see spotty showers start to pop up along the Sacramento mountains. Later in the evening isolated storms are expected along the Gila and Sacramento mountains. As well as in Northeast New Mexico.

Today New Mexico sees the start of a heat wave. Through early next week a heat dome combined with a high pressure directly over New Mexico is causing record breaking high temperatures. Central New Mexico is could reach triple digit heat. Southern New Mexico will see a stretch of 100 Degree heat and above.

Due to these high temperatures, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Metro and Chaves County through 8:00 p.m. on August 16th. Given that these temperatures should persist for the next few days, more heat advisories can be expected.
