Regele Charles al III-lea al Marii Britanii şi Irlandei de Nord, şef de stat al mai multor ţări din Caraibe, a spus că este „profund întristat” de „distrugerile teribile” provocate de uraganul Beryl în zonă, relatează joi AFP, citată de Agerpres.

„Eu şi familia mea am fost profund întristaţi să aflăm despre distrugerile teribile cauzate de uraganul Beryl în Caraibe. Mai întâi de toate, transmitem sincerele noastre condoleanţe prietenilor şi familiilor celor care şi-au pierdut viaţa în mod crud”, a scris suveranul britanic, şef de stat în special al insulelor Jamaica, Grenada şi Saint Vincent şi Grenadines.

Miercuri, ploile și vântul puternic aduse de uraganul Beryl au devastat Jamaica. Sceleași fenomene extreme sunt aşteptate joi seară în Mexic, după ce au ucis cel puţin şapte persoane şi au provocat distrugeri considerabile în sud-estul Caraibelor şi în Venezuela, notează AFP.

Beryl, deosebit de puternic pentru acest început de sezon, este în prezent un uragan de categoria 4 pe o scară de 5, fiind însoţit de rafale vânt de până la 215 km/h, a anunțat Centrului Naţional pentru Uragane (NHC) din Statele Unite.

Administraţia Naţională Oceanică şi Atmosferică (NOAA) din Statele Unite a prognozat, de asemenea, la sfârşitul lunii mai, un sezon extraordinar, estimând formarea a patru până la şapte uragane de categoria a 3-a sau superioară.
