Last night (19 June), West Australian Music (WAM) hosted its annual ceremony honouring this year’s Song of the Year competition winners, with acts across all genres taking home huge awards.
Presented by Act Belong Commit and Healthway, the big night took place at Freo.Social and saw emerging R&B artist Rein Mali win the grand prize for Song of the Year with his song Game Of Love, starring CHISEKO. The song has taken the WA music industry by storm, taking over 11 Spotify playlists and receiving airplay on triple j and CADA radio.
In the runner-up position was Joan & The Giants, winning in the Best Rock category with their song, Born In The Wrong Time. Good News Now We Can Eat All The Vampires took home the second runner-up spot with their song, The Miner.
Sofia Gale, a 16-year-old singer-songwriter from Perth, won the prestigious Act Belong Commit award for her music about mental health.
Healthway Chief Executive Officer Colin Smith remarked in a press release, “Thank you for your uplifting song that inspires us all to look after our own mental health and wellbeing.
“Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and to WAM for organising such a great event that supports and encourages the music community to look out for their own and others’ mental wellbeing.”
