Netflix announced on Tuesday that it had officially acquired the rights to RIP, a crime thriller starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck from Smokin’ Aces director Joe Carnahan.

The movie, which was reported to be in the works last month, had been looking for a buyer over the past month, with Netflix swooping in to scoop it up (via Deadline). Besides Affleck and Damon’s inclusion, no other casting information has been shared just yet.

Besides directing, Carnahan will also write the script, with no plot details available outside of the brief “crime thriller” designation. Carnahan previously worked with Affleck for 2006’s Smokin’ Aces, and has also directed feature films like The A-Team, The Grey, Boss Level, and most recently 2021’s Copshop.

Affleck and Damon set to make another movie together

Damon and Affleck are obviously no strangers to working together, with the two friends having collaborated a ton over their 30-year careers in Hollywood. Their most recent collaboration was on 2023’s sports drama Air, which told the story of Nike striking a shoe deal with Michael Jordan.

Damon will next star in Apple TV+’s The Instigators, a comedy heist thriller where he’ll star opposite Casey Affleck, Ben’s younger brother. As for Ben, his next known project is on The Accountant 2, a sequel to the 2016 action thriller.

Both Damon and Affleck grew up together in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and became friends as children. In total, the pair have appeared in nine films together since 1989, including the classic Good Will Hunting, which the pair not only starred in but wrote, which earned them their first Oscar together for Best Screenplay in 1998.
