SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A pedestrian bridge crossing over the river in Santa Fe is now set for demolition. Santa Fe city councilors have unanimously approved a more than $200,000 contract to demolish the bridge at Closson St. and Alameda Blvd.

The move comes after an inspection earlier this summer found one side of the bridge had partially collapsed, falling approximately a foot. The City of Santa Fe Parks & Recreation Department said an engineer determined the bridge could not be repaired and was toon unsafe to cross, leading the city to close it off in July.
According to the contract, once the demolition is complete, both sides of the river bank will be re-seeded with grass and native wildflowers. A new bridge will not be built in its place.
