Saoirse Ronan is opening up about the Greta Gerwig Chronicles of Narnia casting rumors.
Following the massive success of 2023’s Barbie, it was announced that Gerwig had signed on to direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix.
Rumors have since emerged online that Saoirse Ronan had been cast in a role in Gerwig’s Narnia. Ronan previously starred in 2017’s Lady Bird and 2019’s Little Women, both of which were directed by Gerwig.
What did Saoirse Ronan say about Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia?
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ronan revealed that she hasn’t formally been asked to star in Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia at this time; however, that could easily change.
“There isn’t like no truth to [the rumors],” Ronan said. “ She hasn’t asked me, yet. She’s writing it. We have that kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say, ‘So I’ll be in this, just so you know.’ And she takes some time to think about it and then goes, ‘Okay.’ But she honestly asked me about Narnia, I think she’s so kind of wrapped up in writing it right now.”
No casting for Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia movies has been formally announced at this time.
Plot details also remain under wraps at this time; although, Scott Stuber, who was formerly the chairman of Netflix Films, previously said that Gerwig’s project will encompass more than just The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
There have been three live-action Chronicles of Narnia films up until this point: 2005’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, 2008’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and 2010’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The first two movies are currently streaming on Disney+, while The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is available to watch on Max.
