SNAP customers in New Mexico get temporary hot food benefits

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexicans receiving SNAP benefits can now temporarily use their EBT cards to purchase ready to eat hot foods from deli departments at EBT authorized locations. This benefit will be in effect until July 26, 2024. The hot food benefit is not eligible to be used at restaurants or non EBT authorized locations.

What New Mexico laws go into effect in 2024?

The emergency measure helps families affected by recent wildfires and flooding who are unable to prepare food. This added benefit comes after the approval of a waiver requested by HSD from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services.
