The Rio Ruidoso is experiencing flooding, the Village said, and residents in “close proximity” to the river are being asked to to move to higher ground.

A flash flooding warning for the Ruidoso area is in effect until 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the Village said.

Ruidoso fires now 77% contained; all zones now open to residents

An evacuation shelter has been set up at the White Mountain Relief Center located at White Mountain Sports Complex, 687 Hull Road.

An evacuation order order has also been issued for the Upper Canyon area because of unstable soil and “life-threatening” floodwaters, the Village said on its Facebook page.

Current road closures include: Paradise and Hull; Cree Meadows and Country Club; Cree Meadows and Wiley Road; Gavilan Canyon Bridge (by the Warrior Softball Field); and Rio and Grindstone Canyon.

The last two races at Ruidoso Downs were canceled Saturday because of the threat of flooding.

Ruidoso is recovering from two massive fires that are now 77 percent contained. The South Fork and Salt fires forced thousands to evacuate but permanent residents were allowed to return home earlier this week.
