Some victims of South Fork, Salt fires to receive supplemental financial assistance for energy costs

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A total of 334 New Mexican households affected by the South Fork and Salt fires will receive supplemental payments from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

The payments will go out starting Oct. 3, 2024. Eligible households will automatically receive their payments by mail, requiring no further action on their part.

“These supplemental payments will provide much needed relief to help affected LIHEAP customers manage energy costs as they continue to recover,” Niki Kozlowski, director of Income Support Division, said in a news release.

To qualify for the Disaster LIHEAP supplemental benefit, households must have received a regular LIHEAP payment from Oct. 1, 2023, to June 25, 2024, and reside in one of the affected zip codes: 88355, 88345, 88346, 88312, or 88340.

These federal funds will help New Mexicans living in areas that were included in the Federal Disaster Declaration for the South Fork and Salt fires.
