Stone Temple Pilots Drop 'Purple' 30th Anniversary Australian Tour Dates

Stone Temple Pilots Drop 'Purple' 30th Anniversary Australian Tour Dates

Australian summer is well and truly heating up, with huge shows being announced left, right, and centre. In February and March 2025, Stone Temple Pilots will return down under to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their second album, Purple.

Released in June 1994, Purple was spearheaded by the successful singles Vasoline, Interstate Love Song, and Big Empty. In Australia, the album debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and became certified double platinum.

These are the band’s first shows down under since a huge run of Under The Southern Stars shows, where Stone Temple Pilots performed alongside Cheap Trick and Bush in March 2022. It’s the first time the band has plotted a headline run of Australia alongside some festival dates since March 2011.

Stone Temple Pilots begin their tour of Australia at the ICC Sydney Theatre on Friday, 28 February, before heading to Melbourne (Saturday, 1 March), where they’ll headline Hello Sunshine Festival, announced this morning; Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall on Monday, 3 March, Newcastle’s NEX on Wednesday, 5 March, Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Friday, 7 March, and finish up at the Gold Coast for Hello Sunshine Festival. Aussie rockstars Wolfmother will open the headline tour dates.

In November 2017, Stone Temple Pilots welcomed singer Jeff Gutt, who’s been touring and recording with the band ever since. In March 2018, the band released their seventh album and commemorated their original vocalist, Scott Weiland and second vocalist, Chester Bennington, in the liner notes. In 2020, the band released their eighth and most recent album, Perdida.

Upon introducing Gutt as their new vocalist, guitarist Dean DeLeo commented in a statement, “We wanted someone who would not only do our earlier songs justice but would also write new songs and carve out a different path forward with us. It took some time, but we found our guy.”
