Rain and thunderstorm chances continue into early next week across New Mexico. Storms will continue to bring a threat of heavy rain and flash flooding.
It’s another active, monsoon day across New Mexico with strong storms and locally heavy rain, especially in northern New Mexico. Scattered storms are also moving through western parts of the state, down the central mountains, and even in southeast New Mexico. Just like the last few days, storms will continue into the evening, bringing rain and thunderstorms chances into the valleys and lower elevations. A few showers will stick around late tonight, but dry weather will return to start the day Friday.
More scattered storms are on the way Friday afternoon, with a higher chance for rain in the Albuquerque Metro. Other areas in the state that have been seeing storms the last couple of days will again see a good chance Friday afternoon. There is also a higher chance of heavy rain in the Sacramento Mountains where burn scar flash flooding around Ruidoso is looking very likely tomorrow afternoon. More storms will stick around late Friday night into early Saturday morning, but these too will fizzle out by sunrise Saturday.
It’s going to be a very active weekend across New Mexico with widespread afternoon showers and storms. Storms will again be capable of heavy rainfall and flash flooding across much of New Mexico, with a higher risk of flash flooding across burn scar areas. This risk is going to be even higher Sunday when a backdoor cold front moves into the state. This front will bring in cooler temperatures, but also even heavier rainfall along the central mountain chain.
Storms chances will continue next week with some forecast models bringing in drier air around the middle of next week. Despite some slightly drier air, parts of New Mexico will continue to daily chances for afternoon showers and storms.
