Storm chances persist across eastern New Mexico

More storms will develop along the central mountain chain during the early afternoon, and move eastward toward Texas by late this evening. A few storms will become severe, especially in the northeast highlands, with a chance for damaging wind, large hail and a tornado. Clouds will increase this afternoon in western, central and northwest NM. Light storms will be possible in the western high terrain and virga or evaporating rain will be possible across the Albuquerque Metro.

Saturday will be very similar, with an even higher risk of severe storms in all of eastern New Mexico. The storms will develop along the dry line near the central mountain chain, and push east through all of eastern New Mexico. The southeast plains will be under a higher risk of severe storms than Friday. The storms should move off to Texas by around 10 PM. The Rio Grande Valley and west will stay drier and sunnier. Sunday will be a drier day, statewide, with no threat of severe storms in the east plains! Temperatures will, however, be very hot!
