Stormy-Lou Tackles Mental Health In Upcoming Single

Stormy-Lou, the indie-rock foursome based on Kaurna Land, announce the imminent release of the single Falls Away, the first track off their upcoming debut EP.

Falls Away, available on all streaming platforms tomorrow, October 10th, is vulnerable but ultimately anthemic, ranging from a spiritual nadir to eventual euphoria, all against a background of crushing guitar chords and constant, splintering drumwork.

Produced by Lucinda Machin of indie-pop outfit The Tullamarines, the single sees an exciting line-up change, with bassist Alex Flynn Taylor taking the reins and singing lead vocals, instead of front-woman Mik Stoker. “Don’t get too used to hearing my voice on Stormy-Lou tracks, Mik will still be front and centre,” Taylor clarifies, with a self-deprecating bent. “It just felt right for me to tell this particular story.”

The track chronicles Taylor’s struggles with seasonal depression and frayed relationships. “When I wrote the song, I was living alone during winter and emotionally spent. I wanted to write something that hit the feels but at the same time, got people yelling at the top of their lungs.” They add, “People can read the song however they like and I want them too – if it’s romantic to them, that’s dope – but I wrote this about my mental health and I hope people see that personal side too.”

Falls Away will be accompanied by an artful music video that underscores the song’s prominent mental health narrative, directed by Port Adelaide-based creative Eve Burner.

Stormy-Lou’s debut EP, See Ya, Love Ya, Bye! is slated for a February 2025 release. Until then, the band will be performing at the Crown and Anchor Hotel on October 31st for a special Halloween extravaganza, alongside Perfect 50 and the toothpicks.
