Streamer Norme stays awake for 11 days in world record attempt

A streamer has caused controversy after attempting to beat the no-sleep record and making it to 264 hours (11 days) of staying awake.

Throughout his livestream of the attempt, the Australian’s health looked like it was deteriorating which caused emergency services and police to be called to his house.

Despite the concerns for his well-being, the streamer continued until he hit his goal. He was assisted in reaching his goal by his brother Don who splashed water on him and employed other tactics like asking him to stand up every so often.

Many viewers felt the stream had gone on too long and he was regularly asked to stop by those watching on and writing in the online chat.

Aside from the police and ambulance arriving, Norme faced technical difficulties too as his first stream on YouTube was banned.

He then moved over to the Kick platform but quickly got slapped with another ban. These two instances meant he was off camera until he was able to get onto Rumble, which was where he continued the remainder of his attempt.

At one point, he even took to X to ask Elon Musk if he could stream on his platform due to being banned from every site “because I stayed up past my bed time.”

Streamer Norme went for original no-sleep record, not the most recent

His goal was based on Randy Gardner who was the original record holder. He made it to 264 hours and 24 minutes.

But, the actual record for the no-sleeping feat doesn’t actually exist, as Guinness World Records stopped recognizing the record for the longest time to stay awake due to the inherent dangers associated with sleep deprivation.

It was in 1997 when they stopped recognizing this, but the previous record holder was confirmed to have stayed awake for 453 hours and 40 minutes. This means Norme wouldn’t be a record-breaker as he based his goal on the original rather than the most recent.

When people pointed this out on X (formerly Twitter) the streamer replied saying he “went for the record without using stimulants.”
