Sunshine brings families to Rio Grande Nature Center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Kids in the community got to shine some light on nature this weekend.

The Rio Grande Nature Center invited kids 5 to 10 years old to learn all about the sun. They created one-of-a-kind mosaics using special sun print paper and other objects of nature while learning about the chemical processes aided by sunlight.

The event offered a unique way for kids to get outside and learn more about the Rio Grande ecosystem they live in.

“I think a lot of times during summer it’s easy for children to get caught up in like video games and their TV, but they still need to know the importance of getting out in the sun, staying active, and learning new things,” said Alyssa Trujillo, a local mom.

The Saturday Mornings for Kids is offered at the center every week until the end of the season.

The center said they have two upcoming events focused on “Dancing in Nature” and learning about birds.
