Survey: How well organized are Romanians and how do they plan their vacations?

Regarding the most crucial factors in choosing a travel destination this year, 52.4% of Romanian respondents prioritize the price-to-quality ratio of accommodations. This isn’t surprising, considering that inflation still significantly influences travel decisions. In fact, due to inflation, 25.3% of Romanians seek budget-friendly options for flights, accommodations, and destinations.

Overall, 44.3% of Romanians take on the role of organizer when traveling, handling tickets and other plans for themselves and their companions. The most effective strategy, favored by 60.1%, is booking in advance, with the lowest average prices found 2 months to 2 weeks before departure for short and mid-length trips, and 2 to 4 months for long hauls. The next top strategies include using price comparison websites or apps (38.3%) and booking travel on days they believe tickets are cheaper (28.5%).

Contrary to the popular belief that the lowest prices are always available on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings, there’s no data to support this. Airfares are highly dynamic and influenced by factors such as seasonality, flight length, destination, and departure point. However, the specific day you purchase your tickets does not affect the price. What does matter is the day you plan to travel. Generally, tickets for non-peak days, like Fridays and Sundays, tend to be cheaper.

Despite their organizational skills, Romanian respondents reported significant travel-related stressors. Losing luggage is a major concern for 39.7%, closely followed by not having all the necessary information or documentation for their travels at 39.3%. Additionally, 35.4% find the inability to get refunds for cancellations to be a significant stress factor.
