The drama began when Billie Eilish expressed her views on other artists’ decisions to release different vinyl packages in a Billboard interview, calling it “frustrating” due to the deteriorating state of the global climate. A vinyl variation is a slightly different version of the same album. However, it has minor tweaks made to its cover art, color, or tracks.
Eilish pointed out that releasing a large number of vinyl variants has a negative impact on the environment and some artists indulge in this practice to make money. Some Taylor Swift fans took this statement as a personal attack on her. This is because Swift is known for producing multiple vinyl versions.
Swift has notably released four forms of Midnights and eight variants of her 2020 album Folklore. As per the New York Post, fan responses prompted Eilish to post an explanation on an Instagram story. Eilish stated that she “wasn’t singling anyone out” and instead wanted to highlight a wider issue of which she was also a part.
