Texas man plots murder-for-hire on ex’s new boyfriend, sentenced to 10 years

HOUSTON, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 23-year-old Texas man was sentenced to federal prison for plotting a murder-for-hire scheme on his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Alejandro Cardona-Rodriguez, a Mexican national who was residing in Houston, first came to be on the radar of law enforcement in January of 2023. At the time, authorities intercepted messages he sent via Facebook and WhatsApp, negotiating a fee for the murder of one of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriends.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Cardona-Rodriguez provided the location and photos of where the potential victim could be found.

He pleaded guilty to his charges on May 11, 2023, during which time he admitted to using interstate and foreign facilities with the intention of committing murder and promising or agreeing to pay for the murder.

While jailed and pending sentencing, Cardona-Rodriguez was also allegedly assaulting other inmates.

“In handing down the sentence, the court noted his continued propensity for violence and the seriousness of the offense that involved negotiating with someone to kill another human being,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated.

Over a year after his guilty plea Cardona-Rodriguez is being sentenced to 10 years in federal prison to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release.

He will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
