Matty Healy is on his way to being a married man. The 35-year-old 1975 frontman is now engaged to 26-year-old model Gabbriette Bechtel, as revealed by the bride-to-be on Instagram Stories Tuesday night (June 11).
Bechtel broke the news by sharing a photo of her ring — a black gem surrounded by smaller diamonds — taken at Charli XCX’s Brat listening party in Brooklyn, which the couple attended together. “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT,” she captioned the photo, which Healy reposted on his account. (The “Von Dutch” singer got engaged to The 1975’s George Daniel in November.)
The “Somebody Else” singer’s mother, Loose Women host Denise Welch, also confirmed the news on her talk show Wednesday morning (June 12), according to People. “I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged,” she said. “Black diamond [ring], he had it made for her. I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.”
Healy and Bechtel first sparked dating rumors in September. In April, the latter told Homme Girls that she and the rock star had been trying to meet in person for four years before they finally crossed paths last year. “He came to L.A. and we’ve been in love ever since,” she said at the time, revealing that they enjoy ordering takeout and playing Fortnite in bed together.
News of the couple’s engagement comes almost exactly a year after reports surfaced that Healy and Taylor Swift had broken up after about a month of dating. He was later linked to model Meredith Mickelson, while Bechtel previously dated model Levi Dylan, grandson of Bob Dylan.
