After revealing that Qimir is the Stranger / Mae’s master in episode 5, Star Wars: The Acolyte focuses much of the narrative of episode 6 around him and his past. Although we should question the veracity of his accounts of things as he is a Sith trying to convince Osha to be his acolyte, we should also recognize that he probably has no reason to lie on certain matters. This includes his desire to attain the Power of Two.
Here is what the Power of Two potentially is in Star Wars: The Acolyte and the possible reasons for Qimir to want it.
What is the Power of Two in Star Wars: The Acolyte?
In episode 6, while reflecting on what he did wrong with Mae, Qimir tells Osha that he erroneously believed that her twin wanted more than just revenge and that their desires were aligned. When Osha asks what Qimir wants, the latter answers that he seeks the Power of Two. Osha doesn’t prod Qimir on the matter any further, so we don’t get an exact explanation of what he means.

Qimir indicates that he was thrown away by his Jedi master, and it is heavily implied in this episode that the said Jedi Master is Vernestra Rwoh. While investigating the deaths of fellow members of the Order on Khofar, Vernestra recalls the phrase “Something to tip the scales.” Perhaps, these were the exact words Qimir said to her while speaking about the Power of Two.
Is The Acolyte’s Power of Two the same as the Rule of Two in Star Wars?
The Power of Two sounds almost similar to the Rule of Two, a philosophy already established in the Star Wars canon. So, it can be just that. Darth Bane originally developed the philosophy of the Rule of Two to ensure the survival of the Sith. During the High Republic Era, the Jedi generally believe that the Sith no longer exist, despite occasional rumors claiming otherwise.
It’s also possible that Qimir means the Doctrine of the Dyad when he says the Power of Two. The Doctrine of the Dyad preceded the Rule of Two, which Darth Sidious once claimed was a “pale imitation” of the former. The Doctrine of the Dyad revolves around Force Dyad, an incredibly strong Force-bond established between two Force-sensitive individuals.
Why does Qimir want the Power of Two?
Qimir, who was previously trained by the Jedi, probably also believes that the Sith have been destroyed and seeks to re-establish the chain of Sith masters and apprentices. Alternatively, he has a Sith master and wants an acolyte/apprentice of his own so he can ultimately replace his teacher.
If the Force Dyad theory is accurate, Qimir probably seeks to create a Force Dyad with his acolyte. Generations of Sith Lords, while adhering to the Rule of Two, have tried and failed to create a Force Dayd with their respective apprentices. Ultimately, the Sith prophecy of Force Dyad was fulfilled through the Force-bond between Rey, who turned out to be Sidious’ granddaughter, and Ben Solo / Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy of the Skywalker Saga.
However, the actual reason behind Qimir wanting the Power of Two is expected to be revealed in the upcoming episodes of The Acolyte.
