Previously, The Doobie Brothers announced its intent to tour North America, with select stops slated to include opener Steve Winwood. The Traffic frontman started his support role on July 30, a position he has remained in this past month, including Sunday, August 25, during a stop at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Ill., 30 miles outside Chicago’s city center, when he finally stepped out, joining his host for three-songs during the night’s encore.

Sunday’s concert celebrated The Doobie Brothers’ songbook, with particular compositions pulled from albums such as Minute by Minute, The Captain and Me, Toulouse Street and other highly anticipated deliveries touching on the California band’s extensive history. Following a rousing take on the 1973 released “China Grove,” Michael McDonald, Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, and John McFee returned to the stage for the evening encore, which started on “Black Water.”

After completing the What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits pull, the band welcomed Winwood to the stage. Ensuing collaborations produced takes on “Amazing Grace” and “Takin’ It to the Streets,” which saw an exchange of lines between McDonald, who returned to The Doobie Brothers in 2021 after an extensive 20-plus year gap. For their final joint take, the ensemble landed on fan favorite “Listen to the Music.”

A video of The Doobie Brothers and Winwood performing “Takin’ It to the Streets ” has surfaced online. Watch it below.
