The ongoing costume C-drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue in the lead roles, released episode 19 on June 10, 2024. This episode focuses on Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) and Xiao Heng (Wang Xingyue) visiting Dong Mountain together. In episode 18, viewers saw Fang Fei’s encounter with Magistrate Feng.
In this latest episode, Fang Fei has a breakdown after her confrontation with Magistrate Feng. She knows him as someone her father took pity on and appointed as an official. But he used his position to embezzle money and practice corruption. He even replaced all her father’s subordinates. Fang Fei feels confused and doesn’t know which path to take. Meanwhile, she stumbles upon a familiar face while leaving the Huaixiang District Office.
She meets an old, mute woman she knew from her childhood. The woman is known to be a mute and dumb person around the neighborhood, and this is why Feng doesn’t suspect her. The old woman cleverly slips a note inside Fang Fei’s sleeve, asking her to meet her in private.
Fang Fei exchanges attire with Tong and uses it as a disguise to meet the old lady. But Feng’s subordinates spot her and start to follow her. While trying to lose them, Fang Fei encounters some hooligans who start to harass her. But fortunately, Xiao Heng and his men arrive on time and save her.
When Xiao Heng spots Feng’s subordinates following Fang Fei, he convinces her to act cozy with him. They intend to make it look like they are two lovers meeting secretly away from home. Furthermore, he warns Feng’s men to stay away from Fang Fei.
Then, the episode shows Fang Fei meeting the old woman. After a tearful reunion, the lady begs her to leave the country and never come back.
The Double episode 19 recap: Wu Jinyan asks Wang Xingyue’s help to rescue her father
Furthermore, the old lady informs Fang Fei that all her father’s loyal subordinates have been sent to Dong Mountain to work at the mine. Hearing this, Fang Fei promises the lady to take revenge soon.
With this information from the old lady, Fang Fei meets Xiao Heng and attempts to convince him to help her. She needs his help to rescue the ex-subordinates of Xue Huaiyuan. In return, she promises to help settle the matters between the Li and Ye families. Although she can not reveal her agenda, she promises to let him use her as a pawn in his game. Xiao Heng turns down her request initially, but Fang Fei convinces him that their destination is the same. Her sincerity convinces him to team up with her.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Feng interrogates Xue Huaiyuan to retrieve information about Fang Fei. He tortures him to make him confess that his daughter is here to rescue him from execution. Huaiyuan is startled to hear that his daughter is still alive. Feng threatens to execute him sooner to stop him from reuniting with his daughter. Meanwhile, his subordinates bring him news that Fang Fei, Xiao Heng, and their subordinates have split up to continue their mission.
Furthermore, Feng’s men torture Mingyu to know about Fang Fei’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Fang Fei and Xiao Heng reach Dong Mountain. While passing through narrow tunnels and encountering impending dangers, the two become closer. They take down some of Feng’s men and change into their clothes to blend in.
Meanwhile, Li Zhongnan and Li Jin continue to plot, and Li Jin receives a secret note, revealing that Xiao Heng is in Huaixiang.
On Dong Mountain, Xiao Heng and Feng Fai witness the horrible conditions of the miners in the gold mine. Also, Fang Fei is able to connect the dots between the Xue family, the princess, and her ex-husband, Shen Yurong.
