RLJE Films has unveiled the trailer for an upcoming shark movie, titled The Last Breath. The feature serves as the late actor Julian Sands’ last feature, who passed away in January 2023. He was 65.

The Last Breath will be available in theaters and on-demand starting July 26. It joins this year’s collection of shark attack-related features, including Something in the Water, Deep Water, No Way Up, and Netflix’s surprise hit Under Paris

In addition to Sands as Levi, the upcoming movie also stars Kim Spearman as Sam, Jack Parr as Noah, Alex Arnold as Brett, Erin Mullen as Riley, Arlo Carter as Logan, Maxime Durand as Brian, and Hayden Grech as Jimmy. It is directed by Joachim Hedén (Breaking Surface) and written by Nick Saltrese (A Prayer Before Dawn).

What is The Last Breath about?

“Finding the long-lost wreck of the warship USS Charlotte has been the lifelong pursuit of Levi (Sands), an aging expat running a tourist dive business in the British Virgin Islands together with recent college dropout Noah (Parr). When the USS Charlotte emerges for the first time in eighty years after a tropical storm, Noah’s friends visiting the island insist for them all to do a once-in-a-lifetime dive on the newly discovered wreck before it’s handed over to the authorities. The dream dive rapidly turns into a nightmare as they become trapped in the darkness of the Charlotte’s interior, thirty meters down and with a dwindling air supply. And then they discover that they are not alone,” the official synopsis reads.

The film’s producers are Andrew Prendergast and Chris Reed. Executive producers are Will Machin, Sam Parker, Michael Yates, Blair Ward, Anders Erdén, Eric Harbert, Sara Shaak, Matthew Smith Lyons, Cloé Garbay, and Bastien Sirodot.

“We’ve seen shark movies before, but not in this setting, and not with this set of characters. While being scary, bloody, and claustrophobic, I think the film also has a lot of heart, and it gives you permission to smile and laugh in between the scares. It’s an entertaining film on many levels,” said director Hedén in a statement.
