Bitget: up 100%, market cap $1.6 billion
Bonk: up 90%, market cap $1.5 billion
Three of the top four high-performance ROI cryptos this year so far were leading meme currencies with large market capitalizations.
Like Bitcoin, we don’t know who started Dogwifhat, Pepe, or Floki. They just showed up one day on the Internet and people who got it, got it.
Of course, Bitcoin is the big daddy of all cryptocurrencies, was extremely innovative, and started off the entire Web3 layer of the Internet, so not as many people understood what it was all about early on.
But by the time meme coins like WIF, PEPE, and FLOKI arrived on the scene, the Web3 revolution had already expanded to millions of people. Smart contracts and currency issuance by base layer blockchains like Ethereum and Solana reached a critical threshold of popular adoption and celebrity acclaim by the time DOGE and SHIB posted incredible rallies in 2021.

A Repeat of 2021 Meme Coin Markets In The Making
2021 was a landmark year for cryptocurrency markets. The green candles on price charts everywhere were unbelievable by any previous standard of asset price growth in liquid markets.
