The newly released ongoing Chinese drama The Princess Royal, starring Zhao Jinmai and Zhang Linghe in the lead roles, released episode three on June 26, 2024. As seen in the official trailer, Li Rong (Zhao Jinmai) and Pei Wenxuan (Zhang Linghe) are reborn after falling prey to each other’s schemes. In episode 2, the couple encounter each other at the spring banquet. Episode 3 focuses on the Princess getting kidnapped.
In this episode, Li Rong and Wenxuan talk after a go match. Li Rong is curious to know why her ex-husband didn’t let her choose anyone else. However, before Wenxuan could answer, Li Rong accuses him of treating her horribly in the past. Wenxuan is surprised to hear her talk about the past and is certain that she must remember about their past life as husband and wife.
Li Rong tells Wenxuan that fate has brought him back to her to punish him. Wenxuan has had enough, and he finally speaks up. He is also hurt by how Li Rong wronged him. Li Rong next asks him why he even visited the consort. His answer takes her by surprise when he mentions that he wanted to get a glance at 18-year-old Li Rong.

He expresses his wish to marry her once again, but Li Rong turns down his proposal. She has gotten a second chance at life and doesn’t want to repeat the same mistakes as before, which will lead to a lonely life.
Her response takes Wenxuan down memory lane. He recalls her suspecting him of being in love with someone else. She also revealed falling for Su Rongqing and wanting to part ways with Wenxuan. Even then, Wenxuan wanted to remain an ally to her and never betray her.
Zhang Linghe saves Zhao Jinmai from kidnappers
Wenxuan continues to persuade her to rethink her decision. He attempts to convince her that no one can protect her as he can. He points out that no one of the other consort attendees is suitable for her. The Princess urges him not to meet her again. Wenxuan promises to abide by her decision.
But it is evident that she still cares for him. As punishment, she made him eat food that he was allergic to. As soon as he left, she sent her maid to deliver him medicine and ointments.
Yang Quan waits outside the capital in the dead of the night with his army of soldiers. He intends to kidnap the Princess and forcefully marry her. This way, he will be able to obtain power and a good reputation.
While heading out of the capital, Wenxuan notices Yang’s family’s horses entering the city. It doesn’t take him long to figure out that the Princess is in danger. He immediately gets down from his carriage and heads in the direction of the palace. Furthermore, he sends his subordinate to inform the Emperor.
Soon enough, Yang Quan’s army attempts to abduct Princess Li Rong. Wenxuan tricks them and runs away with the Princess in his arms. To hide from Yang Quan, Wenxuan hides deep inside the forest. Soon, Li Rong wakes up. They seem to be lost within the forest.
What happens in The Princess Royal episode 3’s ending?
Wenxuan protects the Princess from impending dangers. He carries her when her feet hurt, lends her his cloak when she feels cold, and even makes a bonfire when she feels scared.
Wenxuan reveals that he suspects Su Rongqing poisoned the Princess over an elongated period. He wants to avenge his family’s downfall, which was caused by Li Rong’s family. Su prepared the Princess’s medicine and food. He also made Wenxuan wear the sachet on the fateful night that made the Princess sick. His reasoning shatters Li Rong’s heart.
