Tom Bombadil, one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s most colorful characters, is finally heading to Middle-earth. Vanity Fair revealed a first look at Rory Kinnear, who will play Bombadil in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2.

Bombadil helped rescue the hobbits from danger in Tolkien’s first book in the saga, The Fellowship of the Ring. Bombadil, who goes by Old Tom, is a “woodland-dwelling man with an ethereal presence and a penchant for nonsense songs and brightly colored clothes.” Despite his presence in the books, Bombadil was cut out of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and Ralph Bakshi’s 1978 animated film.

Kinnear is best known as Bill Tanner from the James Bond franchise. Kinnear recently starred in Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Netflix’s The Diplomat.

Calling all #LOTR faithful: Tom Bombadil, the mystical J.R.R. Tolkien character often left out of adaptations, will appear in season two of #TheRingsofPower.
