On May 29, Ian Somerhalder posted a video on Instagram, with the caption “Season 9 wrap?” followed by an eye and laughing emoji. The video also featured his Vampire Diaries co-star Paul Wesley, who portrayed Stefan Salvatore.
The clip begins with Somerhalder asking Wesley, “Season 9 is starting off pretty well, right?” to which the latter replies, “Yeah bro.” Somerhalder followed by saying, “Season 9 just wait,” with Wesley then listing how they had “one camera…a few bottles of water, and a boom.” You can check out the video below:
Naturally, this caused fans to react in a surprised and skeptical way in the comments section. However, Somerhalder later posted another Instagram video and revealed that the earlier post was a joke.
Furthermore, this clarified that The Vampire Diaries Season 9 is not happening. In reality, Somerhalder and Wesley were actually filming a commercial for their Bourbon label, Brothers Bond, and also promoting the delivery service GoPuff.
