Thousands attend WNMU’s annual ‘¡Fiesta Latina!’ event

SILVER CITY, N.M. (KRQE) – Western New Mexico University drew thousands this past weekend for their 7th annual ¡Fiesta Latina! cultural event. The event is designed to recognize, celebrate, and assist in the preservation of New Mexico’s connection with its Mexican history. The university has been hosting the event since 2017.

This year’s fiesta drew in over 5,000 visitors and the university expects attendance to grow in the following years. At the center of the festival was an artisan mercado featuring handmade work from 50 highly skilled traditional artists across Mexico. WNMU says there was also a fashion show, arts and crafts, mariachi, flamenco, and a documentary viewing.
