TMK Hydroenergy Power, in partnership with Innovation Norway, developed the first floating photovoltaic energy system on the lake of the Grebla hydropower plant, a landmark in renewable energy and produces over 1 million kWh of green energy annually.

The initiative represents a pioneering action and marks a significant step towards sustainability, through the simultaneous exploitation of solar energy and water in an innovative way. Once put into operation, in addition to the annual production of green energy, it leads to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions with 300 tons of CO2 per year. Referring to a period of five years, it means a total reduction of emissions of up to 5,000 tons of CO2.

“The project is an ambitious step towards the future by increasing the efficiency of hydro-management through more clean energy, and last but not least, it marks a first at the national level. The energy will be used for the internal consumption of the water management. It is a pilot project that we believe will prove its effectiveness and we want it to be replicated. The energy capacity produced may not be impressive, 1 MW compared to the many GW of green energy needed at the moment. However, the project proves the synergistic power of the two renewable sources. In addition, the project fully supports our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, promotes the use of clean energy and strengthens efforts to prepare the transition to green energy,” said Liviu Gavrila, Chief Generation Officer Evryo.
